We want to provide you with the widest selection of Wood Beaded & Malas as well as the Gemstone Beaded Bracelets and Malas that you can find anywhere, so the question you may ask is, why don't you carry Ebony Wood Beaded Bracelets & Malas?

This is great question. So we did some research. Black Ebony is one of the most valuable and expensive types of wood in the world. It is prized for its dark heartwood and has traditionally been used for charcoal, native carvings, combs, needles, cups and knife handles. The high density, texture and waxiness of Ebony is perfect for the production of musical instruments like clarinets and works very well for holding the metal fittings of guitar fret boards. And it has been treasured for the making of fine furniture and has been used to make bas-relief carvings due to hardness of the wood.

As a result of the high value of Black Ebony Wood, many species of the Black Ebony trees are now extinct, on the verge of extinction, is an endangered tree or extremely vulnerable. You can read more here.

We here at World Prayer Beads want to do our part and have steered away from carrying Ebony Wood due to the over-harvesting of this wood. We think that more plantations need to be built to preserve this wood for future generations. Of course this take time as it takes 70-200 years for a tree to reach mature growth. Thank you for understanding!
